SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, July 29, 2011 (Press-News.org) Visitors to Seoul will be able to attend a unique cultural event in October with the annual revival of King Jeongjo's royal parade to his father's tomb.
As part of the Hwaseong Cultural Festival, almost 2,000 local residents, soldiers and students will take to the streets in a colourful procession, which commemorates one of the country's most well-renowned kings.
Ruling the nation in the 18th century, the monarch is revered for his progressive politics and sense of filial piety, the latter of which is evidenced by the solemn procession to the royal tomb that the modern-day event recreates.
This year's parade will take place on October 8th and will travel from Suwon Sports Complex via Jongro Intersection, before eventually arriving at Hwaseong Fortress.
Lasting from 13:00 until 15:00 local time, it will be an austere but visually spectacular occasion, with participants sporting lavish period costumes and accessories.
A statement from the organisers said: "Since its inception in 1996, the parade has become one of Korea's best and most representative traditional events."
Travellers who are interested in experiencing this cultural celebration can find a wide selection of Seoul hotels on AsiaRooms.com, with the IP Boutique Hotel Itaewon among them.
More information on the parade can be found at http://english.visitkorea.or.kr/.
